LIC Claim Rejection Letter: How to Respond & What to Include (2026)
By Hari Kotian | Published on 2026-07-25
Receiving a claim rejection from LIC is stressful, but it is not the final word. A well-constructed response — backed by the right documents — can reverse the decision. Here is everything you need to know about responding to a LIC claim rejection.
Step 1: Read the Rejection Letter Carefully
The rejection letter must state the exact clause or reason under which your claim was denied. Common reasons include: non-disclosure, lapse due to non-payment, discrepancy in nomination, or claim intimation beyond the stipulated time period. Note every detail.
Step 2: Collect All Supporting Documents
Before writing your response, gather:
- Original Policy Document
- Premium payment receipts / renewal receipts
- NOMINATION form (form for change of nomination)
- Death Certificate (for death claims)
- Medical records and post-mortem report (if applicable)
- Claim form acknowledgment copy
- Bank account details linked to the policy
- Identity and address proof of the claimant
Step 3: Write the Response Letter
Step 4: Submit Within 15 Days
Submit this response to the Branch Manager who handled the claim. Also email a copy to LIC's Grievance Redressal Officer at the regional office. Keep a stamped acknowledgment copy for your records. Insurers must respond to your appeal within 15 days under IRDAI regulations.
Step 5: Escalate if No Response
If LIC does not respond satisfactorily within 15 days, escalate to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa Portal or approach the Insurance Ombudsman in your region. See the full escalation guide here.
